Peruvian Old Man Cactus (Espostoa lanata)

Give your collection a little Andean character with this distinctive columnar cactus, recognized for its soft-looking coat of white hairs and sculptural shape.

Native to the Andes of Peru and Ecuador, Espostoa lanata is adapted to rocky, high-altitude landscapes. Its woolly appearance is what earned it the nickname “Peruvian Old Man.” A striking natural accent, its pale texture makes a lovely contrast with warm-toned gravel and colorful pots.

Care guide

• Light: Provide bright light and plenty of sun. Acclimate gradually to stronger direct sun.
• Water: Water thoroughly, then let the potting mix dry out completely before watering again. Water less often in cool or darker winter conditions.
• Soil: Use a fast-draining cactus mix in a pot with drainage.
• Temperature: Keep warm and protect from frost and prolonged cold.
